Green the holiday season!!

Ahhh the holidays!! This time of year is great for kids, but all of the holiday décor that comes with it can be laced with lead and other toxic chemicals.  Pay special attention with holiday lights, painted ornaments and nativity characters.

Some lights even have a lead warning on them!! Lead, lead, lead.  Most of these decorations are made out of the country where we don't know exactly what has been used to make them. When children touch them, the chemicals get on their fingers and then the fingers in their mouths.  While we all still decorate, just beware or opt for safer things like wood or felt.  You can even make decorations out of salt dough, felt, twigs, pinecones and branches or anything found in nature.   Once your kids have helped decorate, make sure they wash their hands to remove any toxic chemicals from store bought decor!!!
